Rachmaninov
Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini

Shostakovich
Symphony No5

Carlos Miguel Prieto CONDUCTOR

Boris Giltburg PIANO

Shostakovich wrote his Fifth Symphony in terror for his life and gave it the title ‘A Soviet artist’s response to justified criticism’. But the music tells another story: of struggle, resistance and the triumph of the human spirit. It’ll make a gripping sequel to the keyboard fireworks and heartfelt romance of Rachmaninov’s hugely popular Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, played tonight by a real RSNO favourite, the incredible Boris Giltburg. Conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto begins the evening with a vision of pure serenity.
