Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique

Johansen Pan

Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto

Tchaikovsky Symphony No6 Pathétique

Tabita Berglund Conductor

Randall Goosby Violin

‘Pathétique’ sounds like an odd name for a symphony, but it’s perfect for Tchaikovsky’s final masterpiece. Translated as ‘full of feeling’, when Tchaikovsky composed his tempestuous Sixth Symphony, he laid absolutely everything on the line. There’s no possible way to follow that, so with a nod to Earth Day, guest conductor Tabita Berglund begins with a ravishing nature-scene from her native Norway, and joins the acclaimed young American violinist Randall Goosby in the joyous song (and exuberant dance) of Tchaikovsky’s lovely Violin Concerto.
