Folk-song crusader Sam Lee performs tracks from his new album, Old Wow.

With Old Wow, Lee has created a timeless bridge; in his words; “Music that simultaneously looks back into the past and ahead to the future. An urgent cry to help inspire us all to fall back in love with the natural world that we might strengthen our resolve to protect her."

Asked for his all-time favourite advice received, Lee recalls his late artistic benefactor Stanley Robertson’s injunction - indicating ears then mouth – “You’ve got two of these, and one of those: use them in that proportion.” It’s a pearl that’s served Lee well, from Mercury-nominated debut LP to recent singing adventures with nightingales and Extinction Rebellion. Much-anticipated third album Old Wow, inspired by the power of nature, reimagines material initially sourced on his regular song-hunting quests.

Having previously spanned the Scottish song spectrum from Lizzie Higgins and Stanley Robertson to Michael Marra and Aidan Moffat, Aberdeenshire’s Iona Fyfe bewitchingly extended her range into Americana and jazz on 2019’s Dark Turn of Mind EP.
