Since winning the prestigious Thelonius Monk Jazz Competition aged just 18, Armenian pianist Tigran Hamsayan has continued to garner plaudits as a singularly distinctive talent, synthesising elements that range from his native folk tunes to baroque and hip-hop music. He’s joined here by the adventurous Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen, both players having featured on ECM’s acclaimed 2016 quartet album Atmosphères.
