When Glasgow was the "second city" of the British Empire and the grand terraces were built in the West End in the 1880s, families that made their money out of shipping, whiskey, engineering, steam engines, textiles and carpets as well as merchants, doctors and lawyers moved into these magnificent houses. Heather Waddell, an author and art critic whose family connections here date back to the Victorian era, will explore the history of some well-known families and their businesses.
