Join us for one of our short events, where each week we showcase items from our wonderful collections. Reflecting changing world events, social conditions, technological advancements and cultural ideas since the Mitchell Library opened in 1877, our collections cover books, photographs, journals, and historical documents.
The entire population of St Kilda was evacuated on 29th August 1930. We’re marking this by displaying some of our material tracing the history of the islands, the people, their way of life and ultimately, their departure. We’ll also look at how the islands, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are a draw for tourists.
For more details follow the Mitchell Library on Facebook, and #MitchellCurious on Glasgow Libraries’ Twitter feed.
This material is available on Level 4 of The Mitchell Library.
