With February 2022 marking 550 years since Shetland was annexed from Norway to Scotland, under a disputed dowry deal with the Danish crown, this centrepiece concert in Celtic Connections’ series of celebratory events brings together a host of Shetland’s foremost cultural ambassadors, plus some of their closest musical pals.

Besides presenting a feast of fabulous sounds, a tailor-made programme of individual and collaborative performances seeks to illustrate both Shetland music’s distinctive Norse/Scottish heritage and its dynamic cultural relationships with the wider world, past and present.

Leading the charge are the brilliantly barnstorming Fiddlers’ Bid, champions of their homeland’s world-famous fiddle tradition since they were at high school, and the contrasting but equally compelling singer-songwriters Kris Drever, Jenny Napier Keldie and Freda Leask. Yet more fiddle mastery arrives in the form of Catriona Macdonald and international trio Nordic Fiddlers Bloc, and the innovative Fair Isle singer/accordionist Inge Thomson, with more special guests to be announced.
