"Glasgow made the Clyde - and the Clyde made Glasgow" is one of the city's best-known sayings. But what does it really mean? Award-winning BBC broadcaster, Colin Mackay goes back to when the West of Scotland was served by a shallow, stone filled river with treacherous sandbanks, then traces the changes in the river and the trade and industry which were to follow, making the region a world-beater in land and sea-based commerce and bringing the great wealth and prosperity which helped to shape the West End as we know it today.
