Dates and times

Monday 7 October 2019
2:00PM - 3:00PM

guided by Lula Wanderley and Gina Ferreira

This event is part of Altered States and Human Threads, a season from the inclusive arts organisation Artlink, devised in response to 'Until', our current exhibition by Nick Cave, and aimed at breaking down barriers of difference through shared experience. It will take place in the gallery.

In the 1960s and 70s Brazilian artist Lygia Clark pioneered art practices focusing on sensory responses to objects, materials, and situations. Drawing on one such artwork, Rosácea, (Rose Window), 1974/75, participants will lie or recline together in the form of a circle, within the Nick Cave installation. They will be invited to embrace diverse sensory experiences prompted by the gentle placing, folding and refolding of simple objects such as bags filled with air, water, sand or foam on their bodies. Eye masks will be supplied. This is an immersive experience open to all.

The workshop will be carried out by Rio de Janeiro-based researcher Jessica Gogan and former resident dancer Dasha Lavrennikov and be guided by the practices of artist and psychologist Lula Wanderley and Gina Ferreira who over many years have reinterpreted and enacted Clark’s proposals in various therapeutic settings in Brazil. This re-imagined workshop will invite participants into a sensory common ground informed by the richness of the sensitivities of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

Suitable for ages 16+
