Q. Why did you decide to close all Glasgow Library venues and services?
In line with the government’s advice on reducing social contact in response to the coronavirus situation, Glasgow Life took the difficult decision to suspend all services from close of play on Tuesday 17 March.
This closure applies to every Glasgow Life venue across the city, including Glasgow Libraries and Community Centres. They will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
The closure applies to:
• All Glasgow Life Libraries
• All Glasgow Life Community Centres
• All activities normally provided in them
Q. When will you re-open?
The health and wellbeing of all Glasgow Life staff and customers remains our priority and we will continue to follow government guidance. This means that our services and venues will remain closed for now.
We’ll continue to keep this page up to date regarding our response to the situation. So whether you need it now, or in the near future, it could be worth a bookmark. You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook for our latest updates.
Q. What extra cleaning measures will you be taking to ensure the facilities are safe on re-opening?
The health and wellbeing of our staff and customers are of the utmost importance so we’ll be dedicating extra staff and cleaning materials to this and take the opportunity to carry out an extremely thorough clean of all areas of our venues. This means we can all get back to working and making the most of our libraries and community centres with safety and confidence.
Q. Will I be charged fines during the library closure?
No - all fines incurred during the closure period will be waived.
Q. Can I reserve library items while the closure is in place?
You cannot reserve any physical items until our libraries re-open. However you can reserve eBooks or eAudiobooks online. We apologise to our members for any inconvenience this may cause.
Q. Can I return my books to the library?
No - due to government guidance, Glasgow Libraries will not be accepting returned items during these closures.
Q. I am not a library member but would like to access online resources. How do I do this?
Please visit https://libcat.csglasgow.org/web/arena/joinlogin and complete the online form. You will receive a library card number beginning with UNREG, please use this and the four digit PIN code you created to access our eReading, audiobook, eMagazine, eMusic and online resources.
Q. I am a Glasgow Libraries member but can’t find my library card and want to use the e-offer. What can I do?
If you can’t remember your details then please email email@example.com and we will be able to help you.
Q. I am a Glasgow Libraries member and would like to access online resources. How can I do this?
During the closures you can still use your library card OR join the library to access our collection of eBooks,eMagazines, audiobooks, eMusic and eResources https://libcat.csglasgow.org/web/arena

Library members can browse digital magazines from our collection of popular titles with no loan periods, and no limit to the number of magazines you can download via our eMagazine offer. This is available online 24 hours a day with your library card number and PIN.

Q. How do I contact Glasgow Libraries about a book or eOffer enquiry?
Please email Stock.Development@glasgowlife.org.uk or call 0141 287 2999 (Mon-Fri 10am-4pm) who will be happy to assist with any enquiries during the closure.
Q. Can I still go to Book Group?
No - all Glasgow Libraries activities are currently suspended. This includes all book groups operated by Glasgow Libraries.
Q. Can my child still go to Book Bug?
No - all Glasgow Libraries activities are currently suspended. This includes all Book Bug groups operated by Glasgow Libraries.
Q. Is the café at the Mitchell Library open? Any other facilities?
No – all library café facilities are currently closed. We apologise for any inconvenience and we look forward to welcoming you back to Mitchell Library and our other activities and venues as soon as we are able to do so.
Q. How do I contact Macmillan @ Glasgow Libraries during closure?
Macmillan @ Glasgow Libraries are providing free cancer support and information via phone and online to anyone who is affected by cancer. Find out more about the support provided at glasgowlife.org.uk/macmillan or contact the team on 0141 287 2903 / firstname.lastname@example.org
Q. I have already paid for my Community Centre lets in advance – will I get a refund?
Let holders will not be out of pocket due to the closure. For let holders who have paid in advance we will contact you to discuss reimbursement or membership credits.
Q. I attend a class at the community centre – how will I know this is cancelled?
All Community Centres are currently closed. You should speak with the class provider or check their website/social media for further information.
Q. I have a let or party booking – will it go ahead or will I receive a refund?
Unfortunately all bookings are currently cancelled until. We will be in touch with you if anything changes.
Q. Are the Community Centre cafés open?
No – all public services within the community centre, including cafes, are closed.
Q. My child attends after school/nursery at the community centre – will it be staying open?
No – from Friday 20 March childcare/afterschool provision will cease. You should speak with your childcare/afterschool provider for further information.
Q. I have a gym membership at the community centre – will I get a refund?
For members who have paid in advance we will contact you to discuss reimbursement or membership credits during closure.
Q. Will the toilets be accessible when libraries and community centres are closed?
Unfortunately all libraries and community centres will be closed and this includes the toilet facilities.
Q. I am a member of the Advisory Committee – will I be able to get access for meetings or to work?
Unfortunately the building will be closed to the public and this includes for meetings.
Q. I am a let holder and I need access to equipment currently stored in the centre.
Please contact the venue manager who can arrange controlled access.
