Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Volunteers provide emotional support and high quality information in a relaxed environment across Glasgow.
It feels good simply to be able to listen and help
To be a volunteer you do not need to have a great knowledge of cancer or come from a caring background. What we are looking for is a willingness to listen to others and a warm personality. We provide 2 days of accredited core training and an ongoing learning calendar throughout the year to support you in your role.
To date Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Volunteers have donated a staggering 35,000 hours of their time to support people affected by cancer in their communities. Volunteers usually donate of 2.5 hours per week of their time. At the drop in services volunteers provide emotional support and a listening ear, as well as signposting and referring people into relevant and wide-ranging services such as benefits and welfare rights advice, counselling, complementary therapies and more.
