It's always rewarding to be able to make a difference - Helen
We understand that the life changing effects of cancer are not restricted to people living with cancer themselves, but can often create the need for additional support in the lives of friends, family and carers. To meet these needs and support people affected by cancer in Glasgow the Macmillan Volunteering Hub was launched in September 2018.
As part of the Hub, Macmillan @ Glasgow Libraries volunteers have donated over 40,000 hours of their time to support people affected by cancer. At our drop in services volunteers provide emotional support and a listening ear, as well as signposting and referring people into relevant services such as benefits and welfare rights advice, counselling, complementary therapies and more.
You can find out more about volunteering with Helen who has shared her Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Lead Volunteer story.
Macmillan Volunteering Hub roles also include Volunteer Drivers with Improving Your Cancer Journey, Macmillan Information and Support Volunteers at the Beatson and at the NHS Bereavement Service at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, recruitment for volunteers is currently on hold, however if you register your details we will respond to you when we are able to confirm volunteering can proceed in Glasgow Life and other venues.
