Role Description

We offer free and confidential drop-in services in libraries across the city, where anyone affected by cancer can get emotional support and high quality information from Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Volunteers. Apply today to become a Macmillan Cancer Information & Support

To be a volunteer you do not need to have a great knowledge of cancer or come from a caring background. What we are looking for is a willingness to listen to others and a warm personality. We provide 2.5 days of core training which will help you in your role. We also provide an ongoing learning programme throughout the year to support you in your role.

To date Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Volunteers have donated a staggering 25,000 (Sept 2016) of their time to support people affected by cancer in their communities. Volunteers provide the programme with an average of 2.5 hours per week. In this time volunteers enable anyone affected by cancer to access emotional support, benefits and welfare rights advice, counselling and complementary therapies in libraries across the city.

Without volunteers, our services would not exist. By donating a couple of hours of time each week, volunteers are ensuring that people affected by cancer in Glasgow get the right support, at the right time.
