Olympic Torch Relay

Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June 2012

The Olympic Torch Relay is coming to Glasgow on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 June 2012.  Torchbearers will carry the torch throughout the city, with the route taking in some of the city's most iconic locations.

There will be a series of choirs along the route from the west end to the city centre as part of Creative Scotland's 'Summer of Song.'  Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum will be hosting a torch celebration event as part of Growing Bolder - Glasgow's Active Ageing Week.  The event will begin at 1.30pm and will feature live music and a tea dance and a performance by the Sill Dancing Group.  Come along and join in the London 2012 celebrations!

On Saturday 9 June the Torch will start its journey at The Tall Ship Glenlee at the Riverside Museum at 7.03am, heading up to Beith Street and straight up Byres Road to Queen Margaret Drive then left onto Maryhill Road.

The torch will then leave Glasgow and continue its journey via Inverness, Orkney, Shetland, Isle of Lewis, Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh.  Over its 70 day journey, the Olympic Flame will cover 8000 miles and visit over 1000 towns and cities ensuring that over 95% of the UK population will be within one hour of the route.
