School Curriculum and Timetable
The curriculum that Glasgow School of Sport pupils follow at Bellahouston Academy is designed to allow pupils to study their sports specialism and achieve six National 5/4 qualifications by the end of S4 and three or four National Qualifications (each year) in S5 and S6.
S1 and S2
First (S1) and second (S2) year sports pupils are timetabled together for eight hours a week of sports coaching. There are thirty-two periods in the school week and to release pupils for eight hours of sports coaching does require that pupils have less time in certain subjects.
Subjects that pupils have less time in Art, Music, Drama, HE, ICT, Enterprise, etc. Over S1 and S2 all pupils should still have some access to these subjects.
Sports pupils in S1 and S2 have no core Physical Education classes.
S3 and S4
Pupils in S3 and S4 follow a curriculum, which is designed to enable pupils to achieve up to six National Qualifications at level 5 or 4.
Third (S3) and fourth (S4) year pupils are timetabled together for ten hours a week of sports coaching. There are thirty-two periods in the school week and to release pupils for ten hours of sports coaching requires pupils to have 6 rather than 8 subjects.
Sports pupils in S3 and S4 have no core Physical Education classes.
S4 pupils have one period of Sport Education. This subject is delivered by the Glasgow School of Sport Coaching team and provides pupils with the opportunity to gain additional qualifications.
S5 and S6
Pupils in fifth (S5) and sixth (S6) year have a choice of following a curriculum, which is designed to enable pupils to study for three or four National Qualifications each year.
Pupils who choose to study for three National Qualifications will be timetabled for fourteen periods of sport.
Pupils who choose to study for four National Qualifications will be timetabled for eight periods of sport.
