Sports Psychology
Psychology support continues to play a key role within the School of Sport. We continue to develop our partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University to deliver and support our athletes in this field.
Partnership
The partnership agreement between the university and Glasgow Sport is overseen by by Dr Bryan McCann PhD (Lecturer in Psychology) from Glasgow Caledonian University.
The psychology team will regularly provide a programme of psychological services year-round to our pupils to support the sports performance and well-being of our athletes
We are working along the framework set up by former Sports Psychologist Chris Hartley who worked at the school from 2016 - 2019. During his time at School of Sport, Chris completed a Motivational Climate Intervention Study with our Hockey programme.
Charlotte Chambers
Charlotte is a trainee Sport and Exercise Psychologist in the second year of the doctorate degree at Glasgow Caledonian University, having completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Edinburgh and her master's degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of Stirling. Charlotte has previously worked with athletes on Glasgow Caledonian University Talented Athlete Program and Edinburgh University Performance Sport program before joining the Glasgow School of Sport.
In addition to her experience as a psychologist, Charlotte is also an experienced trampoline and double mini trampoline coach and has participated in a variety of different sports as an athlete. Charlotte is passionate about supporting athletes and helping them to understand their experiences and is excited to join the School of Sport Team.
Sarah Findlay
Sarah is a trainee Sport and Exercise Psychologist, having completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Strathclyde, she is now in her second year of the DPsych programme at Glasgow Caledonian University. Sarah has worked previously with the Strathclyde Sirens U21 netball team before joining the Glasgow School of Sport.
In addition to her experience as a psychologist, she is also an experienced athlete and coach. She played badminton internationally, representing Scotland many times as a junior. As some of you may know, Sarah also coaches the U13 Glasgow Regional Performance Squad and the U13/15/17 West of Scotland Regional Performance Squads. Sarah is extremely passionate about athlete development and well-being and is excited to be a part of the GSOS team.
Leigh Martin
Leigh completed her undergraduate in psychology at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), followed by a Masters in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University. She is currently a trainee sport and exercise psychologist on her second year of the Professional Doctorate in Sport and Exercise Psychology at GCU.
Leigh has experience working as a personal trainer and worked for England Netball for a number of years. Before joining Glasgow School of Sport, Leigh worked as a trainee sport psychologist for a National Mens team, providing one-to-one support for the players.
In addition to her experience as a sport psychologist Leigh played netball and basketball to a competitive level, representing her district and West of Scotland respectively. Leigh is also a netball coach and currently plays for St Mirren netball club. She has a passion for supporting athletes to develop not only as performers but as individuals too and is excited to be a part of GSOS team.
