Rugby 7s

Originating in Melrose, Scotland the game of sevens has really taken off over the past decade or so

What's involved?

Rugby 7s is now a regular game in the Commonwealth Games and has been introduced as an Olympic sport for 2016. It's a faster paced shorter version of our wonderful game. With just half the team, (hence the 7s) we play a much shorter game (depending on the tournament it can be anything from 22 minutes) over the full pitch which lends itself to lost of fast breaking, high scoring rugby.

Traditionally the sevens season starts around the end of the normal season in April, as the teams head for a summer break. Tournaments have popped up all over the country resulting in a great variety and a vibrant scene.

Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s

The May bank holiday weekend saw a whole weekend of sevens rugby, music, entertainment and fun – all with a circus fancy dress theme. Scotland had their best finish in five years, claiming fourth place.

New Zealand won the event, beating Canada 54-7 in the final.
