A new exhibition for 2012
Glasgow Museums’ collection of Italian art is one of the finest in any public collection in the UK.
It spans 500 years of Italian art and includes work by artists such as Bellini, Titian and Botticelli.
Over the last few years Professor Peter Humfrey from the University of St Andrews has been working with us to develop an in-depth catalogue of this collection.
Based on this new research we are developing an exhibition which will be on show at Kelvingrove in the summer of 2012. We are also planning to tour the exhibition to other museums in Europe and possibly America.
Many of the paintings have not been on display for decades and require some conservation work to be done to get them into good condition for the exhibition. This work has been funded by the Scottish Government’s Museum Recognition Fund.
