China Insight with Lyon & Turnbull

Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April

In partnership with the internationally renowned auction house, Lyon and Turnbull, we are delighted to host this unique event celebrating Chinese art. Join us for this focus on the art and marketplace of the 21st century's most rapidly developing sector, which was also close to the heart of Sir William Burrell.

All proceeeds from the event will be donated to support Glasgow Museums and in particular the valuable work at the Burrell Collection, helping to preserve Sir William's unique legacy for future generations.

This event is sure to appeal to anyone who enjoys Chinese art, as well as owners and collectors.

Saturday programme

The Saturday event will feature lectures and guided gallery tours, with specialists from the Chinese Art world, including:

Jacqueline Simcox, published author and world authority on Chinese textiles, who will speak on Chinese Imperial and court costume.

Nixi Cura, co-founder of the Arts of China Consortium at New York University and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, who will speak on Chinese painting.

Lee Young, Head of the Asian Art department at Lyon & Turnbull and Dr Yupin Chung, Curator of Chinese & Far Eastern Civilisations at The Burrell Collection will also represent their respective institutions on stage.

There will also be an opportunity to win a one-off guided tour of the Burrell Collection stores with Dr Yupin Chung, Curator of Chinese and Far Eastern Civilisations with the Burrell Collection. There are 12 places to be won for this unique insight into Sir William's incredible collection and his meticulous approach to collecting. Everyone buying a ticket for Saturday will automatically be entered into the draw, with the winners announced at 11am that morning and the tour taking place at 4pm.

Sunday Valuation Day

We've brought together a range of valuation experts, including some well-known faces from Antiques Roadshow, to give you the chance to get your own artwork or antique appraised. So if you have an artwork or object that you would like to know more about, this is a great opportunity! All items will be seen and please also note that valuations are not restricted to only Chinese art, so if you have any artwork or object that you would like an expert opinion on, please do bring it along.
