Phase 1, Ward 23, What Does Art Mean to You?

Art was a form of healing for me when I could not speak or cope with another person’s movement, touch and speech. It’s helped express my emotions when I could not find the words.

As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 23, Partick East/Kelvindale, Fiona Miller from Tricky Hat Productions delivered What Does Art Mean to You? — a vibrant multimedia project that invited local voices to shape and share their relationship with art.

Tricky Hat hosted four public Vox Pop events at Gartnavel Royal Hospital, Glasgow Clyde College, The Kibble Palace, and Partick Housing Association, asking: What does art mean to you? What does art look like where you live? What art would you like to see where you live?

Participants shared responses through conversation and writing, which were captured on film and used to inspire two digital installations at Partick Housing Association and Ha’Penny Bridge House. The project culminated in a Forum Theatre performance at Partick Burgh Hall, blending music, video, dance, yoga and performance. Participants from across the ward brought their ideas to life on stage, celebrating art as a shared, accessible, and deeply personal experience.
