Phase 1, Ward 6, Pollokshields Proposes

Some of the (more) playful proposals.... a street sign dedicated to John Maclean, and ‘mender and filler’ poems added to filling for potholes.

Phase 1, Ward 6, Pollokshields

As part of the Artists in Residence Programme for Ward 6, Pollokshields, Alec Finlay and Henry Bell delivered Pollokshields Proposes, a community-driven project inviting residents to imagine how their neighbourhood could be improved or transformed.

Engaging people online, in person, and at public meetings, the artists gathered ideas that ranged from the practical to the poetic. These proposals were then shared on social media and through a dedicated blog, without limiting the scope of imagination or possibility.

A series of selected ideas were developed into posters and photographed by Mhairi Law in key local settings, offering a visual record of the community’s vision.

The first phase of the project culminated in an exhibition at The Glad Café, where the proposals returned to the heart of the community, inviting continued dialogue and reflection.

A special thanks to community partners that worked with the artists: Pollokshields Quad | Pollokshields Gurdwara | The Community Fridge | The Hidden Gardens | Locavore | Urban Roots | Soul Riders/Bikes for Refugees.
