Phase 2, Ward 12, What Anchors You?

Specially made postcards sit in a box. They show an anchor with a banner wrapped around it reading "what anchors you?"
The workshop was an engaging opportunity that opened up discussions about the children’s experience of Lockdown in a positive and collaborative way. A memorable afternoon that promoted positivity and creativity to support our children’s mental health and recovery.

As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 12, Victoria Park, Jenny Olley and Lynsey Wells of In the Making Glasgow delivered What Anchors You?, a reflective project exploring local experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Residents were invited to consider the question, “What anchors you?” and share their thoughts through specially designed postcards and on social media. Postcards were made available at community pick-up points and posted directly to local groups, encouraging broad participation. Working remotely, the artists used Pinterest to share inspiration, held weekly online sessions and delivered craft packs to local schools and care homes.

Responses were as varied as the participants themselves, with the postcards revealing deeply personal reflections. A surprising and celebrated outcome was the diverse and beautiful handwriting captured in the submissions, which inspired the creation of a unique ‘Neighbourhood Font’. Throughout the residence, The Anchor Lab’s window gallery served as an exhibition and community noticeboard, offering a safe and creative way to stay connected.
