Phase 2, Ward 13, Immovable Objects

I just wanted to thank you and Manu for the opportunity, and I’m really grateful and enjoyed it very very much. I learned so much.
As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 13, Garscadden/Scotstounhill, filmmaker Manu Kurewa from Ignite Theatre created Immovable Objects, a short fiction film exploring a family forced out of their home and into hotel accommodation at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Working online with young people from Ignite’s Seniors Group, Manu guided the development of the film’s concept. The project supported 11 paid traineeships, including Assistant Director and Camera Assistant roles, offering young people, particularly those from asylum-seeking and refugee backgrounds, the chance to gain hands-on experience in filmmaking and learn key industry skills.
Once restrictions eased, participants took part in the film shoot, developing practical knowledge in a professional creative setting. External funding from Creative Scotland and the University of Glasgow helped to support the development and production.
