Phase 2, Ward 14, Music for the Community

As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 14, Nevis Ensemble delivered a wide-ranging music project in Drumchapel/Anniesland, working with local primary schools and the wider community.

Nevis Ensemble worked with Blairdardie Primary School and Langfaulds Primary School, delivering online sessions due to lockdown restrictions. Online workshops and pre-recorded videos explored pulse, rhythm, melody, and lyrics, supporting both remote learners and teachers. A key outcome was a new piece of music created in collaboration with the children, arranged and scored for a string quartet and young singers.

The residency also brought live music to the community through outdoor chamber concerts in partnership with Drumchapel Community Council, reaching care homes and sheltered housing. Additionally, Nevis Ensemble piloted an Arts on Prescription programme with Dr Veronica McBurnie, involving 10 patients referred by local General Practitioners in a creative exploration of music and wellbeing.
