Phase 2, Ward 19, LIFE

Two people are facing away holding an old photo of Celtic Park whilst looking at the building.

As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 19, Shettleston, Today Museum's project lead, Rebecca Fraser, delivered LIFE, a project exploring personal histories through walking, conversation, and memory.

Rebecca hosted one-to-one Walk and Talk sessions with local residents, inviting participants to bring a photograph or object that told a story of local life. The walks traced meaningful routes through Shettleston, connecting memories to places, whether revisiting where a photo was taken or simply walking through personally significant locations.

Participants ranged in age from 2 to 90, and the stories shared spanned childhood memories, experiences of lockdown, and hopes for the future.

The project culminated in the creation of an online archive: LIFE: PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE, showcasing these journeys and stories as a collective outdoor museum rooted in the East End of Glasgow.
