Phase 2, Ward 21, Human Nature
As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 21, North East, artist duo Walker and Bromwich delivered Human Nature, a project exploring ecology, the environment, and local heritage.
Building on their Phase 1 work, the artists created Human Nature Art Packs, a six-week creative programme using drawing, painting, collage, and construction. Packs were distributed to local residents, schools, and groups at Platform, offering a hands-on way to connect with the natural world during lockdown. Inspired by the Easterhouse Mosaic and the local landscape, the project responded to a growing interest in nature as a source of comfort and reflection during the pandemic. The packs, which focus on local flora and fauna, were developed with Eilidh Malcolm from Forestry, Land Scotland, and Seven Lochs Wetland Park.
The artists also worked on Leaves for Life, part of the international Dialogues Made Possible project. This creative exchange connected young people from Sunnyside Primary School with communities in Colombia. The children created artistic leaves to hang as bunting, focusing collective attention on the climate emergency and global issues. Leaves for Life gave young participants in the North East a unique voice in the global conversation leading up to COP26.
