Phase 2, Ward 7, Langside Heritage

As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 7, Langside, Julie Fraser collaborated with Battlefield Primary School and Golden Generation to explore local heritage and community through creative learning.
During lockdown and beyond, Julie worked with older adults connected to the Golden Generation, aiming to support well-being and reduce isolation. She delivered "Stepping into Spring," an online taster workshop that used poetry, songs, and photographs to spark memories, inspire conversation, and foster connections.
At Battlefield Primary School, Julie established the Detectives Club, a project that invited children to investigate local landmarks and historical figures. These discoveries were expressed through creative writing, photography, and visual art.
Outdoor engagement was a key focus, with sessions encouraging connection to nature. A recycling-themed art project supported the school's curriculum while promoting sustainability through hands-on learning. The residency culminated in a joyful kite-making and flying event, offering a playful and uplifting celebration of creativity and community.
A special thanks to community partners, supporters and contributors: Battlefield Primary School | Golden Generation.
