Phase 3, Ward 8 and 18, Storyplay for the Planet!

As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme, Licketyspit Theatre Company delivered Storyplay for the Planet! in the East Centre Ward and An Air Pollution Solution in Southside Central.

This work was delivered as part of Create 4 Glasgow, a participatory art project that built on the legacy of COP26 and gave voice to Glasgow's young people and their environmental priorities.

In the lead-up to COP26, Licketyspit worked with school and nursery communities in the East Centre to deliver Storyplay sessions that nurtured confidence, parental engagement, and children’s rights. These imaginative, play-based sessions allowed families to explore climate change creatively, amplifying children’s voices and demonstrating how imagination can unlock real-world solutions to global challenges.

In Govanhill, Licketyspit collaborated with Hollybrook Academy on a project to tackle local air pollution. Pupils conducted traffic surveys on Calder Street, where their playground is situated, and estimated that over 3,400 cars passed each school day. The young people envisioned a living green barrier to reduce pollution by 60% and began sharing ideas with local drivers about more sustainable transport choices. An Air Pollution Solution emerged from an earlier phase without an artist, before being paired with Licketyspit through the Create 4 Glasgow residency programme. The young participants engaged in a creative and practical exploration of environmental issues, reinforcing their sense of agency and role in shaping a cleaner, greener future.
