Phase 4, North East Community Planning Partnership Area, Celebrating Gaelic

As part of Glasgow Life’s Artists in Communities programme in the North East Community Planning Partnership Area, Màiri Morrison delivered a series of creative Gaelic engagement activities.

Màiri collaborated with fellow Artists in Communities to deliver singing and drama sessions across local schools and warm spaces. At Singing for Fun in Calton, Màirihosted Gaelic singing events that welcomed both Gaelic and non-Gaelic speakers. Conversations naturally emerged around language with participants sharing knowledge and asking questions.

Màiri also worked with Gaelic schools across the North East, supporting children transitioning to the new North Kelvinside Gaelic School. A short piece of drama was devised and performed to mark the move. Further collaborations with John Binnie connected Glasgow Gaelic Schools and Sandaig Primary School through a bilingual drama project inspired by a Gaelic nurse who established a ward for Gaelic speakers in Springburn during WWI.

Màiri collaborated with artist Rebecca Fraser on Arty Chats, introducing Gaelic language through conversation, art, and song in warm-space sessions at The Charter. These sessions offered a supportive space for reflection, expression, and being heard.
