Phase 4, North East Community Planning Partnership Area, Repeat Pattern

As part of the Glasgow Life Artist in Communities programme in the North East Community Planning Partnership Area, Mandy McIntosh highlighted Springburn’s heritage through an exhibition at GoMA.

Mandy co-exhibited Repeat Pattern at the Gallery of Modern Art GoMA, with artist Helen de Main, reflecting on work developed during previous phases of Artists in Residence. Through textiles, print, and sculpture, the exhibition explored feminist histories, care, housing, displacement, and the legacy of Springburn’s industrial past. It also aimed to increase the visibility of the area’s decaying built heritage and erase workers’ histories.

Residents of Springburn were invited to the exhibition opening. Mandy further involved locals by arranging for Springburn Academy pupils to visit the exhibition and bringing elements of the GoMA show to Springburn for GALA day.

Beyond the exhibition, Mandy contributed to wider heritage strategy conversations, engaging with Glasgow Life museums staff and conservators about preserving vulnerable local artefacts. She also arranged a meeting at GoMA with representatives from Glasgow City Heritage Trust, Lost Glasgow, Paul Sweeney MSP and conservator Stephanie de Roemer to explore potential conservation initiatives in Springburn, ensuring heritage remains recognised and accessible locally.
