Ward 4, Phase 1, Guess Where This Is

Many residents were happy to spend a long time talking to me about the neighbourhood and its history, and their place in it.
As part of Glasgow Life’s Creative Communities Artists in Residence programme for Ward 4, Cardonald, Fiona Fleming delivered Guess Where This Is, a visual exploration of place, memory and local connection.
Fiona’s primary method of engagement was sketching and painting street views directly within the community. This visible, on-the-ground approach invited conversation and curiosity, often leading to mind map-style reflections based on these exchanges.
During poor weather, Fiona created abstract paintings from photographs and shared them on local forums, encouraging residents to guess their locations. This built a meaningful online dialogue with those who had seen her at work in the area.
Fiona also held regular creative sessions at Penilee Community Centre. She based herself at Cardonald Library and Learning Centre, where informal conversations with staff and visitors further enriched her understanding of the neighbourhood.
