Dementia-friendly concerts

Free live music for people living with dementia and their carers

The power of music

Our dementia-friendly concerts show the positive impact of music. These events can help people reminisce and bring back memories.

Enjoy an afternoon of live music in a friendly space. Artists perform a range of music from across the decades including pop, jazz, folk and Gaelic.

What to expect

The events are held at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. You can expect a calm, relaxed and safe environment.

Our concerts are for anyone living with dementia as well as their friends, family and carers. Although everyone is welcome to come along.

You can sing along, clap and dance. Or if you prefer, you can just sit and listen.

Each concert lasts 90 minutes with a 20-minute break halfway through. Tea, coffee and biscuits are also available during the performances.

We want everyone to feel comfortable. Music is played at a lower volume for a more relaxed atmosphere. And lights remain on so you can move around freely.

On the day there will also be:

  • Clear signage throughout the venue to help you find your way.
  • Friendly staff who are always happy to help.
  • A quiet space for you to use if you need a break.

All of our events are free to attend, but tickets are required.

We also arrange sessions at local community centres and care homes for people who can't make it to the city centre.

A safe space

Alison Gildea is the founder of charity Grey Matters - Active Ageing. She talks to us about her experience of the concerts.

When you walk in you can see that people can be a bit withdrawn, but they start to engage four, five, six songs in. And then sometimes you just come up with that song that hits the spot with them.
