Archives

National Archives of Scotland : repository for the public and legal records of Scotland but also holds many local and private archives.
 
The National Archives: national archive of England, Wales and the UK. You can also gain access to the National Register of Archives, a database listing holdings for Archives throughout the UK.
 
Interested in the Archive profession? Visit the Society of Archivists and the Scottish Council on Archives.
 

Family History

For records of Scottish births, marriages and deaths, and the census, visit the ScotlandsPeople website or Scots Origins. 
 
Family Search, the website of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints, is also useful. 
 
Glasgow and West of Scotland Family History Society produce many publications to help trace ancestors from the West of Scotland.
