Phase 4, North East Community Planning Partnership Area, Arty Chats

As part of Glasgow Life’s Artist in Communities programme in the North East Community Planning Partnership Area, Rebecca Fraser delivered Arty Chats, a social creative project.
Rebecca ran weekly Arty Chats at The Fort, an out-of-town shopping and leisure park, before taking the informal drop-in format on tour. Dedicated sessions were held with closed groups, including Women’s Aid and The Charter Community Café, alongside open events in Beardmore Park.
The project engaged participants of all ages, backgrounds and levels of artistic experience. Many were new to Glasgow or from groups that face barriers to accessing the arts. The casual, accessible format allowed participants to engage in their own time, language, and comfort; some popped in while shopping, and others returned weekly.
Conversations flowed organically, with themes often shaped by the participants themselves. Rebecca observed how the community took ownership of the process, stepping into the role of artist and storyteller.
During winter 2024, Arty Chats ran as part of The Charter’s warm space café in collaboration with Gaelic artist Màiri Morrison, promoting creativity, connection and wellbeing during the colder months.
