This is a truly thrilling collaboration that brings together two of the most forward-thinking and distinctive voices in contemporary roots and experimental music.
Hailing from the Isle of Skye, Brìghde Chaimbeul is a leading force in modern Celtic experimentalism and a master of the Scottish Smallpipes. A native Gaelic speaker, her music is deeply rooted in tradition but driven by radical imagination. She has developed a unique style that emphasises the instrument's rich, textural drones, creating a hypnotic, trancelike atmosphere that is both ancient and intensely modern.
Joining her is Shahzad Ismaily, an American multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer of Pakistani descent. Ismaily is a legend of the New York downtown experimental scene, primarily a bassist, he is self-taught on an arsenal of instruments. His style is defined by boundless curiosity and the ability to weave subtle, textural soundscapes through rock, jazz, and global musical traditions.
This joint performance is a remarkable meeting point of sonic worlds. Chaimbeul’s elemental, drone-based smallpipes, which create an insistent and mesmerizing pulse, will encounter Ismaily's vast sonic palette. Expect Ismaily's deep bass tones and subtle electronic washes to cradle and expand the pipe music, moving it into an even more expansive and atmospheric space. This is a journey that connects the ancient Gaelic melodies of Scotland with the avant-garde pulse of New York City, promising a powerful and deeply immersive experience.
