Traditional Scottish folk music is in fiddle player Charlie Grey’s DNA. He took up the instrument when he was just five or six and, having honed his craft on his great-uncle’s 19th century fiddle, he now plays a contemporary 10-string version.

While influenced by past traditions, Grey takes the fiddle to new dimensions through improvisation and imagination. Collaborations with piano player Joseph Peach have included their album Air Iomall (Gaelic for On the Edge), toured by their band Westward the Light. Inspired by St Kilda, beautifully arranged melodies balance modern interpretations sensitively with the sonic history of the islands, evoking their landscapes.
