This winter at the Mitchell Library is going to be fantastic! As part of our focus on fantasy we will be offering a range of events at the library for adults and children as well as special displays of fantasy fiction book collections and a Living Knowledge Network exhibition which uses the Mitchell Library’s unique collections to tell the story of the development of Fantasy.

As part of this programme we are delighted to welcome fantasy and horror author and games writer Thomas Welsh to the Mitchell Library for a creative writing workshop focused on world building in fantasy. In his informative and interactive workshop, Thomas will focus on how to emphasize creativity in world building and lore and how to protect your ideas so you remain true to your creative vision.

Thomas Welsh was the lead writer on Cloudpunk, and its sequel DLC City of Ghosts. He is the narrative director at Ion Lands, and heads a team of writers working on their next game "Nivalis", published by 505 Games. His award winning first novel Anna Undreaming was published by Owl Hollow Press in March 2018. Thomas has written about games for Kotaku, You Died, Unwinnable Magazine and GlitchFreeGame. For his achievements in games writing, he was inducted into the fellowship of BAFTA
