John Carmichael is one of the Scottish Dance Band world’s greatest characters. Having won the All-Scotland Accordion Championships in 1964, he went on to play with Andrew Rankine and Bobby MacLeod, tour with Jimmy Shand and Andy Stewart, become musical director for Kenneth MacKellar and Jim MacLeod, and appear on television’s White Heather Club, Round at Calum’s, with Calum Kennedy, and Thingummyjig. And that’s without detailing his international gigging, copious recordings and TV and radio production achievements.

John will be joined by BBC Radio Scotland presenter and musician Gary Innes in the first hour to talk about his illustrious life which includes guest appearances from old friends, Fergie MacDonald and Alasdair Gillies, before a night of partying begins in the second hour from John and his legendary Ceilidh Band who will also be joined by Celine Donoghue and multi-instrumentalist Katherine Macleod for a night of unmissable music and craic.
