One of the original and best new trad-based Scottish bands to emerge in the 1990s, Deaf Shepherd staged a joyous 25th anniversary reunion at Celtic Connections 2019 – a full 18 years since their last album. So very joyous was the occasion, in fact, that it inspired them to keep going, even to start working on new material, and tonight’s show celebrates their longer-term return to the circuit, complete with new album in the offing. Veteran members John Morran, Clare McLaughlin, Malcolm Stitt and Mark Maguire, together with Finlay MacDonald and Jenna Reid, deliver meticulously crafted arrangements of songs and tunes from diverse Scottish traditions, stoked by equal parts soul and passion.

Building on their homelands’ long-entwined musical history, Québécois/Irish trio Grosse Isle unites the formidable talents of multi-instrumentalist Fiachra O’Regan, fiddler/singer Sophie Lavoie and guitarist André Marchand, co-founder of La Bottine Souriante. “Moving, joyful and exciting. . . the musical best of two great cultures” (Roots Music Canada)
