Jazz was born as a result of a combining of cultures and musical styles including: Ragtime, Blues, African Folk Song, African Percussion Music, Work Song, South American & Afro-Cuban Music Hymns & Spirituals, European Classical Music, and European Marching Music.

The birth of Jazz was highly dependent on multiculturalism and societal enrichment as a result of immigration. Jazz is now recognised as a uniting musical language the world over!
