Visual Art Performance: Saturday 7 July, 1pm
Exhibition: 7 July-26 August, Tramway upper foyer
Young emerging artists explore their place in the world through a story of addiction, dependency, loss, personal change and growth.
A group of young artists aged 15-23 have been working at Tramway since March on Celebrate ART, a project for the Year of Young People 2018 to showcase and celebrate the talent and creativity of young people in and through the visual arts.
On Saturday 7 July the young artists will present a live visual art performance in Tramway’s main theatre, relating a story created by the group. It will include guest appearances by young dancers from Horizons, YDance’s integrated dance group for 13-19 year olds, as well as sculptural objects made by the artists.
Following the performance, the sculptures will be left in place for the rest of afternoon as an installation in the theatre. Upstairs, accompanying work including screenprints, sculpture and painting will be exhibited until 26 August.
Celebrate ART is a national partnership between Tramway, Fruitmarket Gallery (Edinburgh), The John Byrne Award, and Templar Arts and Leisure Centre (Tarbert). Each venue is working with their own group of young people, and the groups will present a joint event towards the end of 2018. Celebrate ART is supported by the Year of Young People 2018 Event Fund and Creative Scotland and managed by Engage Scotland.
