Tha Mòd Ghlaschu a’tighinn! The Glasgow Mod is Coming!
Friday 11th October sees the start of the National Mod celebrations. Being held in Glasgow for the first time in nearly 30 years, the Mod is an annual celebration of Gaelic culture. Glasgow is delighted to be hosting this event and welcomes its recognition as Baile Mòr nan Gàidheal, the Heart of Gaelic Scotland. We are putting on a dazzling array of activities across the city to accompany the prestigious competitive events.
Come and try a range of sporting activities at our Super Saturday of Sport 12th October and immerse yourself in our Gaelic sporting culture. There is something for everyone.
Taking place at Glasgow Green Football Centre from 11am, there will be a variety of taster sessions for children to participate in. From traditional sports such as shinty and football, through athletics, golf and yoga. There will lots to keep the wee ones busy and healthy. With a primary-aged 7 a-side football tournament and the morning culminating in a showcase youth shinty match, there is lots for the avid spectator too.
And it doesn’t stop there! Once the fun of the morning reaches fever pitch, we give a traditional Fàilte to our adult competitors. Piped in at 2pm, the afternoon provides more high end sporting prowess with no less than five matches taking place;
1. International Shinty/Hurling: Alba vs Ireland
2. Men’s Mòd Shinty Cup Final: Glasgow Mid Argyll vs Bute
3. Women’s Mòd Shinty Cup Final: Glasgow Mid Argyll Ladies vs Bute Ladies
4. Men’s Mòd Football Cup Final: Glasgow Island vs Uist & Barra Select
5. Women’s Mòd Football Cup Final: Glasgow City U19s vs Lewis & Harris WFC
The event closes with a medals ceremony at 4.30pm
