Merchant City Festival SURGEs online

Merchant City Festival SURGEs online

The Merchant City Festival will return in 2020 with a new online programme of performances scheduled for Saturday 4 July, the weekend when the outdoor arts festival was originally scheduled to take place.

Glasgow Life, the charity which delivers the Merchant City Festival has been working in partnership with live art festival Surge to bring some of the magic of the festival to life despite the lockdown.

A specially commissioned Surge takeover will present a full day of free performance, music and a symposium, ending with a live DJ set from Balkanarama, all accessible to festival fans online.

The festival will feature new and established work from Scotland and further afield and will give regular Merchant City Festival visitors a flavour of the festival which was planned for 2020.

In the months ahead, festival organisers and partners are working on a series of post-lockdown performances to be staged in streets and venues across the city, in line with public health guidance from the government as lockdown measures are relaxed.

The full programme is now available on the Merchant City Festival website. Visit for details of how to access the onlne festival 1pm – 12.30 am Saturday 4 July.
