Join us on a guided tour of Kelvin Hall as part of the Doors Open Day Festival.
The Kelvin Hall is one of Glasgow’s iconic buildings, sitting in the heart of the city’s West End on the banks of the River Kelvin. Over the years the building has served the people of Glasgow in it’s various roles – from entertainment venue to sporting arena and even wartime factory.
Following an extensive refurbishment in 2016, the venue was once again reimagined. Today it houses state-of-the art gym and sports facilities, as well as cultural and research facilities for Glasgow Museums, the National Library of Scotland and The University of Glasgow.
Our building tours at 11am and 1pm on Saturday will allow you to explore these facilities and learn more about the building’s story, past and present. The tour will include an opportunity to meet staff from The Hunterian who will talk about some of their collections and visit their research facilities. Throughout the day, the National Library of Scotland will also be showing ‘Lost Connections’ in their cinema space. This 15 minute film is a poetic response to the pandemic, exploring the themes of separation, loss and hope.
Tours last approximately 45 minutes. Pre-booking is essential.
