Following rave reviews for The River and The Railway, pianist, flautist and composer Hamish Napier completes his album/performance trilogy exploring the landscapes, history, folklore and people of his native Strathspey with The Woods, a richly-layered evocation and celebration of woodlands’ ancient and modern presence, and their significance to the area’s human communities, sponsored by rewilding project Cairngorms Connect.
Combining expertise in both Scottish and Nordic traditions with contemporary musical exploration and free improvisation, fiddler Sarah-Jane Summers reprises Owerset, her highly-praised 2018 New Voices commission. Themed around Scots and Gaelic words originating in Old Norse, it features a six-piece ensemble on fiddles, trumpet, accordion, guitars and double bass.
