Anna and her mum stop in the woods to rest after a long, tiring journey. And there, they meet an amazing wee bird, who’s watching out for them. Join award-winning songwriter and folk musician Karine Polwart and illustrator Kate Leiper as they read their new book A Wee Bird was Watching. Enter into an enchanted woodland of delights, listen to a wonder tale of kindness, bravery and protection and be inspired to draw your own amazing wee bird.

For ages 3–7

Karine Polwart is a multi-award-winning Scottish songwriter and musician, as well as a theatre maker, storyteller, spoken word performer and essayist. She is a five-time winner at the Radio 2 Folk Awards, and her album Wind Resistance won the Best Music and Sound Award at the CATS 2017. She was also shortlisted for Best Actor ‘Scottish Oscar’ in the Sunday HeraldCulture Awards.

Kate Leiper is an artist and illustrator who regularly exhibits and undertakes commissions throughout the UK. She is particularly drawn to mythical and animal subjects and has previously worked on Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Folk and Fairy Tales and An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Mythical Creatures (both published by Floris). She also illustrated the Book of the Howlat (text by James Robertson), published by Birlinn in 2016.

This accessible toilet is approximately 26m (28yd 1ft) from the main entrance. This accessible toilet is located to the rear right as you enter.

Parking

Please note that there is on-street surrounding The Mitchell Library, from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday this is metered. As this is also a local residential area, please use these spaces considerately. Alternatively, there is an a NCP Car Park on India Street next to Charing Cross Train Station which is a 2 minute walk away.

Photography and video recording

On occasion, Glasgow Life will be on the premises to film and take photos.
