From Paisley, Michael Cassidy is a singer-songwriter whose music reaches back towards the classic Richard Thompson and John Martyn eras and forward to more recent heroes including Rufus Wainwright, Radiohead and Laura Marling while also projecting a bold strain of originality. The inaugural winner of the Gerry Rafferty Songwriting Award, he has toured successfully all over the UK and has appeared at the Canadian Music Week festival and at North by Northeast in Toronto. As his debut album, My Electric Heart, produced by music industry legend Calum Malcolm and released in early 2015, amply illustrated, his emphasis is on strong, memorable melodies.
