Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique

John Grant conducts the considerable forces of the GOS, opening with Berlioz Hungarian March from The Damnation of Faust. Ukrainian soloist Sofiia Shokhina, currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire since 2022, performs Greig’s popular piano concerto which is amongst his earliest important works. The concert closes with Berlioz hallucinatory and dreamlike Fantastical Symphony in which he explores the extremities of the emotional spectrum of an artist’s life.
