This winter at the Mitchell Library is fantastic with a range of events for adults and children as well as special displays of fantasy fiction book collections and a Living Knowledge Network exhibition which uses the Mitchell Library’s unique collections to tell the story of the development of Fantasy.

As part of this programme we invite you to come along to a magical after-hours event at the magnificent Mitchell library. We will have a series of mini-talks from the students and staff at Glasgow University’s Centre of Fantasy and the Fantastic, a chance to meet the curators behind our Fantasy: Realms of the Imagination exhibition, a behind the scenes tour and some additional content from our collections! We will have music, screenings and a glass of wine included with your ticket. Our café will be open for refreshments, cakes and coffees.

There are a wide range of topics being covered by our speakers:

Dimitra Fimi - 'Miniature Fantasies: Exercising the Scientific Imagination'

Tom Emanuel – ‘Secondary Believers, Secondary Worlds: Fantasy and Faith in the 21st Century’

Marita Arvaniti – ‘Playing Faerie: The Enchantment of Theatre in Fantasy Literature’

Lucy Holdsworth – ‘Why Study Satan? What Fantasy Devils Can Teach Us About Ourselves’

Will Sherwood – 'The Road Goes On: Romantic Walking in Middle-earth'

Georgina Gale – 'Chapters of Horror: How the Gothic Bled into Late-Victorian Journalism'

Alice Langley – 'A Woman's Place is in the Home: Women and the Unruly Houses they Become

Sam Tegtmeyer – ‘Maggots, Mitochondria, and Judith Butler: Three (and a half) Metaphors on the Nature of Fantasy’
