DJ Hassan, Roland Carline and Sunanda Biswas will be hosting a  ‘Freestylers’ workshop ahead of their upcoming performances at Tramway as part of Dance International Glasgow:

‘We are really excited to meet performers local to Tramway and Baltic who are part of a similar inclusive arts community.  We want to get to know new people through creativity, performance and movement.  We want to invite you to join our show, because we are going to change the world and we need your help!

Our sessions are movement based, with all dance styles welcome, we also welcome spoken word and any other types of performance.  The workshop will unfold in an organic and creative way- we will be responding to everyone's experience, skills and energy in the moment.  We will be listening and learning from each other so we might invite you to take the lead and tell us what you want to do - you can decide how much you want to be involved, and you might want to watch at first or be centre stage: It’s your choice.

*Please come dressed in clothing that is comfortable to move in and water.

*Please bring some song choices with you if you want to

*Some of the content of the workshop may be inappropriate for children.

If you would like to reserve a place on the workshop or need any travel support or have access requirements please email info@tramway.org

About Freestylers

Freestylers (previously Depford Freestylers) is made of a team of people who have longstanding creative relationships built on care, support and trust. As our team is made up of artists with and without disability we are often interrogating the idea of care because we believe it goes both ways. We believe that everyone in our group is powerful, so we are passionate about finding ways to break down conventional power structures and share ownership of our work. We want to celebrate individuals but challenge individualism in the arts.

Freestylers provide a space where people can be seen if they choose to be, and become a part of a wider cultural conversation about race, class, identity, and gender which is shaping the future.

We use performance and film in our workshops to look for new and inclusive ways to communicate. We work in gallery spaces in the context of performance art. We want our spaces to feel relaxed and intimate. We want our audiences to be able to come and go, shout and make noise, and to join us when they want to.
