✍ Modern & Contemporary Fiction, Society & Culture

Principal Librarian Dawn Vallance joins two modern fiction writers in conversation about their new books, each following the trials and tribulations of three female characters.

In Claire Alexander’s The Pieces of Us, we’re introduced to Minnie McAllister, her daughter Cat, and her granddaughter Ruby. As three generations of women are pulled in three different directions, each is forced to learn lessons about themselves that they never could have imagined. This is an unforgettable exploration of identity, resilience, and the bonds we can’t break.

In Wendy Erskine’s The Benefactors, we meet Frankie, Miriam and Bronagh — very different women but all mothers to 18-year-old boys. They don’t know each other yet, but when their sons are accused of sexually assaulting Misty Johnston, whose family lacks the wealth and social standing of their own, they'll leverage all the power of their position to protect their children.
