Formerly known as Mandolin Orange, Watchhouse – the US husband-and-wife duo of Andrew Marlin (vocals/mandolin/guitar/banjo) and Emily Frantz (vocals/fiddle) – showcase their new self-titled album, which went straight to No.1 in the Billboard bluegrass chart on its release last August. Inspired in part by their experiences of new parenthood, this debut Watchhouse offering both retains and expands on the Appalachian-rooted blend of folk, country and gospel, allied with soul-searching songcraft, that won such a devoted following under the pair’s former name. Their trademark bewitching harmonies and acoustic instrumental textures are freshly enriched by dreamy ambient drones and delicate psychedelic touches, underpinned by alchemical creative chemistry.
